Superstar Amitabh Bachchan has been reigning on the Bollywood industry since he first burst to fame on the silver screen in the 1970s. He is India’s most admired, loved and iconic actor.

Mr. Bachchan is also involved in numerous social works and supports various causes and charities.

He feels that the celebrities have a responsibility to be associated with a cause that is of social and moral nature. It is expected of them because of their star status.

Amitabh travelled in train to support for charity to cancer

Amitabh Bachchan took to Twitter to share his experience of having travelled on the local train from VT to Bhandup. He even shared a picture of himself singing with Saurabh Nimbkar, to support for the cause of cancer. He wrote, “T 2059 -Local from VT to Bhandup to support Saurabh, who sings in locals for charity to cancer .. sang with him ..”.

Big-B gives up LPG subsidy

According to a report by Press Trust of India, Big-B has given up LPG subsidy on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call. He joined the #GiveItUpMovement, along with 1.13 crore others households to opt out of the subsidized LPG cylinder scheme.

UN Ambassador for Girl child

Amitabh Bachchan, being a Good Samaritan, is also batting for the education of girls. In 2014, he was appointed UN Ambassador for Girl child, though he was already a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2005. The doting father of a daughter himself has on several occasions shared how special daughters are. He once posted this on his blog. “They become the soul of the home. They are the reason for the warmth that embraces us all”.

Polio eradication

The 73-year-old philanthropist is known for putting his credibility behind many social causes, one of them being polio eradication. Mr. Bachchan is Unicef’s brand ambassador against polio.
He has become a face of polio mass media campaigns. His prominence in every Indian household was the reason for such a massive success of “Do boond zindagi ki” campaign. Thanks to his unmissable promotions, India has now become a polio free nation.


Amitabh is also an active supporter of PETA. He once supported PETA India’s campaign to free a 14-year-old elephant, Sunder, who was chained up and tormented in a temple in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. All these efforts proved successful and upon the elephant’s freedom and rehabilitation in Bannerghatta National Park in Bangalore, he tweeted, “@PetaIndia has turned elephant Sunder’s home into free-roaming, forested sanctuary… feeling good I contributed to this cause !”


Megastar also supports activist-actress Shabana Azmi’s NGO Mijwan Welfare Society (MWS). He took to his blog to say that the cause encourages women in Mijwan, a small town in Uttar Pradesh, to enlarge and expand their embroidery business.
Big B, along with his daughter Shweta, wife Jaya and son Abhishek, walked the ramp for the cause donning the creations of the ace fashion designer Manish Malhotra.
